How to write a CV for a sales job

๐Ÿ“… July 2025  ยท  โฑ 5 min read  ยท  ProfesionalDocuments.com

Sales CVs live and die on numbers. If you're not including metrics, you're missing the point. Here's how to build a sales CV that shows your commercial impact and gets you in front of a hiring manager.

The golden rule: numbers, numbers, numbers

In sales, your results are your CV. Every claim should be backed by a number:

โœ— Weak
"Responsible for selling software solutions to SME clients."
โœ“ Strong
"Generated ยฃ1.2m ARR in FY24 against a ยฃ1m target (120% attainment). Managed a portfolio of 45 SME accounts, average deal size ยฃ27k. #2 in the 18-person regional team."

Personal statement for a sales CV

โœ“ Example
"Consultative sales professional with 7 years' B2B SaaS experience, consistently achieving 110โ€“130% of annual targets. Specialise in complex enterprise deals with 6โ€“9 month sales cycles and multiple stakeholders. Experienced in MEDDIC and Challenger methodologies. Now seeking a senior AE role in a high-growth SaaS environment."

Key sections for a sales CV

For sales managers

If you manage a team, your CV also needs to show team performance: team size, combined revenue, how you coached reps, how performance improved under your leadership.

๐Ÿ’ก If your numbers aren't impressive, focus on improvement. "Improved from 78% to 112% attainment over 18 months" tells a story of growth. Not every year is a record year โ€” honest progression is credible and respected in sales.
